November 13, Wednesday, 8:30 AM: New York Knicks vs Philadelphia 76ers
With the ongoing noise surrounding the 76ers organization, Joel Embiid is set to make his season debut in this matchup against the Knicks. Philadelphia has been struggling, and Embiid’s return comes at a critical moment, as he aims to help steer his team back on track.
The 76ers currently hold a 2-7 record, with Tyrese Maxey and an injured Paul George leading the team. On Wednesday, they face Coach Thibs’ star-studded Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson. The Knicks’ recent acquisition, Karl-Anthony Towns, will go head-to-head with Embiid once again. Sitting in the middle of the Eastern Conference standings, the Knicks hold a 4-5 record.
Known for their toughness under Coach Thibodeau’s system, the Knicks grind through heavy minutes while performing at a high level. While KAT has the potential to contain Embiid to an extent, Embiid’s MVP-caliber talent should shine through.
In my view, Philadelphia has a good chance to edge out a win here, showing that they’re a legitimate threat in the East when relatively healthy. With the Paul George-Joel Embiid duo heating up, Philly fans have reason to cheer. I also think Philadelphia’s bench depth gives them an advantage. On paper, the Knicks’ starting five may look better, but their lineup still raises questions about consistency.
Depth is key, especially with injuries becoming more common, and I believe Philadelphia is better equipped in that regard.
Philadelphia is 6-2 SU in their last eight home games.
New York is 1-4 SU in their last five games.
Denzeal’s pick: Philadelphia MW (moneyline)
November 13, Wednesday, 11:00 AM: Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors
The NBA Emirates Cup kicks off with an exciting showdown as former Warrior and four-time champion Klay Thompson faces his old team for the first time since being traded.
While the Warriors have been playing well, I like the Mavericks in this matchup. I expect Klay Thompson to have a strong performance in his return, but the duo of Kyrie and Luka will prove too much for the Warriors’ defense to contain.
Dallas is 6-1 in their last seven games against Golden State.
Sanjay’s pick: Mavericks +2.5
