‘Dasurv Ko To.’ Sanford’s Impulse Buy is a Tissot Watch

After 40 minutes of waiting for Sanford to return from the second floor of the mall (“May bibilhin lang po ako!”) , he came back with a satisfied expression on his face. He was carrying a little black paper bag.

“Dasurv ko to!” he said. (“I deserve this!”)

He was accompanied by Team Liquid’s country manager, Mitch Liwanag when he bought the watch. 

“Kaya nga tayo nagta-trabaho para ma-enjoy natin ang buhay,” Liwanag said, then laughed. “Nambudol lang ako!” she joked. 

(“This is precisely why we are working hard, so we can enjoy life! And I egged Sanford to spend!”)

Sanford Vinuya is increasingly becoming known not just for his in-game prowess but for his evolving sartorial choices. Typically spotted in the latest threads from Zara and Bershka, Sanford’s style strikes that elusive balance between laid-back and on-point. It’s now a far cry from his past style of wearing a plain shirt and shorts. The 18-year-old knows what he wants: He doesn’t want to be seen as a kid anymore. He is even meticulous when it comes to his hairstyle. “Mukha akong grade 7!” (“I look like a 7th grader!”) he said when someone attempted style his hair.

His latest acquisition signals a new chapter in his fashion journey: a Tissot PRX Powermatic 80, an impulse buy that set him back P45,000. But Sanford initially wanted to buy a P20,000 Tissot, also in the PRX collection, but he was amazed to find there was an automatic watch that never needed batteries. He immediately fell in love with the Powermatic 80. 

He kept observing his new accessory as we got into the van. 

“Sanford, stop shaking your watch!” his team manager said. 

“Pinapa-andar ko lang po!” Sanford said. 

He has yet to buy a watch winder.
