UP’s Quentin Millora-Brown Sports a Barong Tagalog Versus UST
Quentin Millora-Brown enters his first UAAP postseason in a rather “patriotic” fashion, donning the traditional Barong Tagalog during his pregame entrance versus the Growling Tigers. Captured by Vyn Radovan, the U.P. Fighting Maroons’ resident man-in-the-middle mixed formal and casual elements through a Kultura-made Filipino embroidered short-sleeved shirt, slim-fitted denims, and a “Steel Grey-Puma White” PUMA Suede Classic XXI on foot.
What is primarily recognized as the nation’s formal staple, Millora-Brown showcases centuries’ worth of tradition, dating back to the country’s pre-colonial period as a staple among locals. Usually constructed from piña or abacá fibers, its cultural relevance remains timeless—an avid option for formal occasions and the working class.
For Millora-Brown, wearing a Barong Tagalog is rooted in wanting to showcase his Filipino roots while simultaneously dressing for “another day in the office.”
“I thought it would be a cool fit, as it’s connected to Philippine culture and work wear. Now that the playoffs have begun, the team means business and we’re prepared to play,” Millora-Brown tells ALL-STAR Magazine.
The second-seeded Fighting Maroons look to their finals rematch versus the DLSU Green Archers this Sunday, as they hope to start the series on a high note with the opportunity to overthrow the defending champions.
