Alas Women Miss Asian Games Quarterfinals After Loss to Kazakhstan

Alas Pilipinas Women bowed to Kazakhstan in four sets, 29-27, 24-26, 23-25, 19-25, on Thursday at the Okazaki Central Park General Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan, ending their bid for a spot in the 2026 Asian Games quarterfinals.

The Philippines secured a hard-fought opening set despite a late Kazakhstan rally, with Alas eventually taking the frame, 29-27.

Kazakhstan responded in the second set, but Alas remained in contention throughout the frame. The Filipinas had opportunities to regain control late, only for the Kazakhs to secure the crucial points and even the match.

The third set followed a similar script as both teams traded runs. Kazakhstan again held its nerve in the closing stretch to take the frame, 25-23, and take a 2-1 lead.

Alas kept pace early in the fourth set before Kazakhstan created a gap midway through the frame. The Kazakhs pulled away in the latter stages and closed out the match with a 25-19 victory.

Angel Canino paced the Philippines with 24 points, while Alyssa Solomon followed with 20.

With the loss, Alas Pilipinas Women can no longer advance to the quarterfinals and will instead compete in the classification round as they look to close out their Asian Games campaign on a positive note.
