Ateneo Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin confirmed that there are no talks between him and the New Zealand men’s national basketball team going on as of the moment.
The multi-titled UAAP mentor also clarified that his current contract with Ateneo runs until December 2025 and he expects to coach the Blue Eagles in Season 87 and Season 88.
“There’s no offer from anybody,” Baldwin said to the media during the UAAP season-opening press conference on Wednesday, September 4. “I’m employed by Ateneo. I have a contract through 2025.”
Whether or not he continues to coach Ateneo past 2025 is not yet determined.
“We’ll see. That’s up to Ateneo, that’s up to boss MVP, maybe that’s up to how we do this year.”
As far as how Ateneo will perform this season, Baldwin believes they will be competitive.
“I think we’re going to be competitive. Beyond that, results are something that sometimes happen positively, sometimes they don’t, but I think the important thing is this team has shown in the offseason they’ve grown a lot.”
Baldwin is aware they are a “very young team,” but they’re “going to be competitive.”
“We’re probably underdogs in terms of being champions, but day in, day out, game in, game out, this is going to be a team that battles to win games and they’re going to win games,” he added. “We’ll see how many and how far we go.”
