Barefield, David on Trading Block as Blackwater Awaits Pursuers
We heard from the grapevine that Sedrick Barefield is moving out of Blackwater.
Now, the Bossing camp is confirming that not just one, but two of their marquee players are being put on the trading block.
Add Christian David, a talented 6-foot-6 swingman, to those players being offered by Blackwater to serious pursuers.
No less than team owner Dioceldo Sy confirmed to All-Star Magazine that the two top stars of the squad is on trading block and they’re open to make moves – for the right pieces.
“If the trade is right,” Sy said in an exclusive interview.
Newly-installed Blackwater coach Patrick Aquino hinted that getting an import for the upcoming Governors’ Cup will depend on the player movements.
“We haven’t chosen an import yet, marami kaming tinitingnan pa,” wrote Aquino via Messenger. “We’re going to see pa what will happen in the next few weeks about player movements.”
One of the things the Bossing will have to consider is to move their marquee players in exchange for picks in the upcoming PBA Draft.
Blackwater had already lost their upcoming first round pick to NLEX, which means the Road Warriors will be having two first-round picks in a draft cast that is expected to go deeper with the possible inclusion of former top collegiate stars Michael Philipps and Nic Cabañero, among other studs.
A second overall rookie pick of the 2024 Rookie Draft, Barefield is the team’s top local scorer, averaging 21.1 points and close to four rebounds and four assists per game this season.
David is another second overall rookie pick selected by Blackwater behind Stephen Holt during the 2023 Rookie Draft. The 27-year-old, a versatile forward, however, couldn’t live up to his potential, particularly in the Commissioner’s Cup, as he only averaged 8.58 points, 5.08 rebounds and two assists per game.
