As the Ateneo Blue Eagles get off to a slow start in UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball, it looks like they could use some motivation.
And what better motivation than to hear words of encouragement from former champions of the legendary BEBOB (Blue Eagles Band of Brothers) legacy.
Former Ateneo student-athletes Angelo Kouame, BJ Andrade, Dave Ildefonso, Jason Credo, Tyler Tio, Raffy Verano, Jacob Lao, and Mike Nieto surprised Coach Tab Baldwin, his staff, and the team with a visit during practice on Tuesday, September 17.
According to Ateneo team manager Epok Quimpo, the former UAAP standouts also spoke to the current Ateneo varsity team and provided words of encouragement as they aim to bounce back from an early 0-3 hole in the league standings.
This visit was arranged by the former Ateneo players themselves – Quimpo believes through current Converge team manager Jacob Lao and former Blue Eagles team captain Mike Nieto – to “check up on their brothers.”
Since Baldwin took over the Ateneo coaching position, the Blue Eagles started their BEBOB tradition where the boys look out for themselves. That includes passing on the legacy and learnings from former generations to the next with the goal of continuing the winning tradition of the Ateneo way both on and off the court.
The Season 87 Blue Eagles’ next opportunity to get a win will be on Saturday, September 21, against 2-1 Adamson.
