BJ Andrade Signs with Hong Kong’s Winling Basketball Club

BJ Andrade is taking the leap to play basketball overseas.

Andrade has signed a three-year contract with Winling Basketball Club in Hong Kong, his manager Anthony Brodett of Phenom Sports Management confirmed to ALL-STAR.

The move gives Andrade a fresh opportunity outside the Philippines after his early professional career in the PBA, where he was selected 10th overall by Converge in the 2023 PBA Draft before later being traded to Blackwater.

Andrade and his management team have also submitted the necessary documents to Blackwater and the PBA in relation to his move to comply with league requirements and avoid the three-year ban that may be imposed on players who leave without proper clearance.

Andrade was born in Hong Kong before making his name in Philippine basketball, first as part of Ateneo’s successful UAAP program and later as a first-round PBA draft pick.

At Ateneo, Andrade became known as one of the Blue Eagles’ steady veterans and eventually served as team captain. He was not always the player with the biggest numbers, but his value came through his shooting, leadership, defensive effort, and familiarity with the system.

Now, Andrade will continue his career with Winling, one of the established names in Hong Kong basketball.

Winling Basketball Club, also known as 永倫籃球會, was founded in 1980 and has long been part of Hong Kong’s top men’s basketball scene.

The club competes in the Hong Kong A1 Division and has built a reputation as one of the league’s traditional teams, with a history that includes league championships

The signing gives Winling a player with UAAP championship experience, PBA exposure, and a skill set that can fit into different roles.

For Andrade, the three-year deal represents both a new chapter and a chance to build momentum after a difficult stretch marked by injury recovery and limited opportunity in the PBA.

It also creates a full-circle moment for a player born in Hong Kong, developed in the Philippines, and now set to continue his professional career in the city’s basketball scene.
