DLSU Green Archers Bond, Lock In During Cavite Training Camp

With the UAAP Season 87 Final Four fast approaching, the DLSU Green Archers took a break from their usual routines in Manila to hold a special four-day training camp at Sir Raffy Villavicencio’s guesthouse in Cavite last week. The retreat, which lasted from Tuesday to Friday, served as both an opportunity for intense preparation and a chance for the reigning champions to strengthen their camaraderie.

The entire team participated in the camp, except for likely MVP Kevin Quiambao, who was representing the country as part of Gilas Pilipinas. However, several members of Team B, including Jacob Cortez, Luis Pablo, and Dominic Sarmiento, joined the Green Archers for the trip, making the most of their chance to contribute to the championship effort.

The setup was a stark but welcome departure from their usual environment. Instead of the typical dorm arrangement where players are assigned to separate rooms, the retreat house featured large rooms with 10 to 12 beds. This shared space allowed the team to bond more closely, with players sharing stories, cracking jokes, and, most importantly, reflecting on the challenges ahead.

Coach Topex Robinson emphasized the importance of this retreat, not just for physical conditioning but for mental and emotional preparation.

Their days were filled with purpose. Mornings began with strength and conditioning sessions, followed by team practices in the afternoons. In between, the players had time to eat, refuel, nap, and even catch up on schoolwork. The schedule mirrored the kind of discipline and focus required to compete at the highest level – habits that Coach Topex hopes the players will carry with them into their professional careers.

The camp wasn’t just about on-court performance. A campfire session one evening brought the team even closer, particularly those who tend to be quieter in group settings. Players who rarely spoke up found their voices, sharing thoughts, and contributing to the team’s growing unity.

DLSU’s Singular Focus

As the Green Archers gear up for the Final Four, the championship remains their singular focus. The team has been dominant all season, but this retreat served as a reminder that they can’t afford to take anything for granted.

The Cavite training camp might be over, but its impact will undoubtedly resonate as DLSU heads into the season’s most crucial stretch. The team is not just preparing to defend their crown – they’re preparing to grow as individuals, athletes, and brothers.
