A Historic Draw: FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025 Unveiled in Manila
All roads led to the The BGC Arts Center in Taguig where the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025 draw took place. 16 teams from all 6 confederations will battle it out and only one will be crowned the first-ever winner of the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup which is set to kick-off on the 21st of November 2025 until the 7th of December 2025.
Alessandro Rosa Vieira or the Brazilian famously known as Falcao was selected to be one of 4 Draw Assistants, he is widely known as the greatest futsal player of all time and futsal’s most iconic player. Falcao won the FIFA Futsal World Cup two times in 2008 and 2012 and also was awarded the Golden Ball twice in 2004 and 2008. With him on stage were Tihana Nemcic, who is the first female coach to lead a men’s team in Croatia and had a very impressive playing career as she represented Croatia in both indoor and outdoor football. The two other names were Ms. Hali Long from the Philippine Women’s National Team and volleyball player, Ms. Vanie Gandler who professionally plays for the Cignal HD Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League.
Falcao had this to say when asked how confident he is that Brazil will lift the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup in December, “Whenever you talk about Brazil, in Futsal, Brazil is always on top of mind, for the male and also the female, Brazil is the favorite”.
The hosts ended up in Group A, and were grouped with Poland, Morocco and Argentina, the South American giant expected to bring the flair, passion and pedigree that has defined their futsal excellence. ASEAN Futsal Championship second placers Thailand, will be tested as they go against Spain, Colombia and Canada in Group B. Tanzania will proudly represent East Africa as they go against Japan who currently holds the title as the AFC Women’s Futsal Champion and are also grouped with Portugal and New Zealand. Last but not the least, the FIFA #1 ranked Futsal team in the world, Brazil, will try to samba its way out of their group as they go against Asian giants Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy and Panama.
The head coach of the Filipinas 5, Spaniard Rafa Merino Rodriguez shared that the team will be leaving for Japan for a training camp and that they are looking to have another one right after and stressed that it is very important for the team to have their own identity and to commit themselves to win this tournament.
Something to look forward to before the busy Christmas season, every Filipino football fan will be flocking to the PhilSports Arena to be a part of this momentous occasion; as the Filipinas 5 will try to defend our land against 15 other countries and come out the winners and lift the first-ever FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup.
