A blockbuster trade that could shake up the PBA was announced a day before the league’s annual rookie draft.
The league announced through its official website on Saturday, July 13, that title contender Barangay Ginebra has attained Stephen Holt and Isaac Go from Terrafirma in exchange for Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle. Both teams also swapped first round picks in this year’s draft, which means Ginebra will now have the third overall pick while Terrafirma will select 10th.
Holt, the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year last PBA season, was productive enough to also warrant MVP consideration. He put up 17 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.9 steals a contest. Go normed 11.6 points and 6.8 boards a game last conference. Both guys add depth to a Ginebra squad looking to bounce back after failing to win a PBA championship in either of the last two conferences.
Standhardinger is also an MVP candidate from last season where he registered 19.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 5 assists a contest. Pringle averaged 7.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2 dimes a game in the All-Filipino conference.
Ginebra will now get the chance to select a game-changer with the third overall pick, where franchise cornerstones such as Sedrick Barefield, Kai Ballungay, Jonnel Policarpio, Caelan Tiongson, and others will still be available.
