Gómez de Liaño Re-Signs with Anyang After Breakout Year

Filipino basketball standout Javi Gómez de Liaño will re-sign with the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters for the 2025–26 Korean Basketball League (KBL) season, according to a source. The one-year deal follows a breakout campaign in which Gómez de Liaño not only silenced critics but emerged as one of the league’s most efficient shooters, earning him the nickname “KBL Klay.”

After a stint with Terrafirma in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), where he posted solid numbers (16.4 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 1.9 APG), Gómez de Liaño took his talents to South Korea in mid-2024. He joined Anyang, a winning KBL franchise, and quickly carved out a meaningful role as a sharpshooting wing.

Last season, the 6’3” guard averaged 8.4 points per game while shooting a blistering 49% from the field and 42% from three-point range. He added 2.7 rebounds per game and anchored his unit with floor spacing and confident scoring. His stellar play caught fire late in the season, when he hit double figures in 9 of Anyang’s final 10 games – including a 26-point explosion against eventual champions Changwon LG, shooting 10-of-14 from the floor.

That closing stretch not only helped Anyang reach the KBL playoffs but also cemented Gómez de Liaño’s status as one of the most improved Asian recruits in the league. Though the Red Boosters exited in the quarterfinals, his impact didn’t go unnoticed – both by fans and the front office.

Anyang’s decision to bring him back signals confidence in his growth trajectory and long-term potential in the league. It also momentarilly squashes recent speculation about a return to the PBA, where several teams had reportedly shown interest. Though he was spotted attending PBA games this offseason, Gómez de Liaño’s next chapter remains in Korea.

With a full year under his belt and a system tailored to his strengths, the “KBL Klay” looks poised to make an even louder statement in 2025–26. Anyang is hoping that his sharp shooting and steady rise can help carry the team deeper into the playoffs – and possibly to the title.
