The Adamson Soaring Falcons succeeded in a thrilling victory against the NU Bulldogs, 60-58, to improve to 3-2 in the UAAP Season 87 standings.

Joshua Yerro made the winning lob with 0.03 seconds left, preventing overtime after NU’s Jolo Manansala hit a runner to tie the contest.

Head coach Nash Racela said afterwards that they expected a close match against NU. He also wanted to remind his team about the prowess of their opponents.

“Sabi nga namin NU and Ateneo, those two teams are ideal teams that we should always watch. Kasi they always play consistently, regardless if they’re down, if they’re up, parehong-pareho laro nila. Something that we want to learn. “

When asked about the play that Jhon Calisay and Joshua Yerro connected on to secure the victory, Coach Nash said it was actually assistant coach Gilbert Lao’s call. He also said that the winning shot was specially designed for these two players.

“It was Coach Gilbert that drew that play, so that’s the dynamic of our coaching staff eh. That’s the responsibility of Coach Gilbert.”

He added:

“When we were actually playing defense, we were hoping that if ever they make a basket, we still have time. He was already preparing himself for that.”

Joshua Yerro was happy with the shot, driven by trust from his coaches, teammates, and himself. Yerro shared that they were reminded to stay focused as the game could extend to overtime. However, he held onto Calisay’s trust.

“Sabi ko kay Calisay, wala ng five minutes ‘to. Tiwala ka lang, papasok ‘to,” Yerro shared.

“ATIN ‘TO, sabi niya.” joked Coach Nash.

The Calisay-Yerro 0.03-second play was definitely the highlight of the game. Despite the gap in the first half, the Adamson Soaring Falcons closed the game with a bang.

Montebon led the Falcons with 15 points and 2 assists, while Yerro had 11 points and 5 rebounds.
