Kyle Gamber to Sit Out UAAP Season 89
Ateneo guard Kyle Gamber will sit out the upcoming UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament for “personal reasons,” he confirmed.
Gamber had been included among Ateneo’s seniors in its 17-man roster for the Pinoyliga Big Dance and had a good shot to make the team’s Season 89 roster, but has chosen to preserve his playing years.
The 6-foot-3 shooting guard plans to spend his upcoming redshirt year to train and improve as a basketball player.
“Yes, I am sitting out this season for personal reasons,” Gamber stated on his Instagram story. “I love the team, especially all the guys. Let’s not push any false narratives. Thank you.”
The Filipino-American guard joined Ateneo in UAAP Season 86 after previously representing Gilas Pilipinas at the 2022 FIBA U18 Asian Championship. While his opportunities in the UAAP five-on-five tournament have been limited, Gamber has displayed his perimeter shooting in several preseason and 3×3 competitions.
He was named Best Three-Point Shooter during the 2025 AsiaBasket College Campus Tour, where he helped Ateneo reach the championship game. Gamber also played a significant role in the Blue Eagles’ silver-medal finish in the UAAP Season 88 men’s 3×3 tournament earlier this year, delivering game-winning shots against National University and University of Santo Tomas during the elimination round.
Ateneo is preparing to compete in Season 89 under interim head coach Louie Alas after the UAAP cleared the Blue Eagles to participate in the tournament. The new season is scheduled to begin in September.
The Blue Eagles won their first Pinoyliga contest against OLFU last weekend and will take on the CSB Blazers on Sunday, August 23.
