A pair of recruits who initially committed to the DLSU Green Archers have moved across the street along Taft Avenue to join College of St. Benilde.

Blazers head coach Charles Tiu confirmed on Monday, July 1, that Jake Gaspay and Bonn Daja have transferred to his team. Both players will undergo a year of residency and will be eligible come Season 101 next year.

“I believe they would have a better chance making the lineup of our team than the one of DLSU to be honest. I also spoke to both players and they want to stay and continue their Lasallian education, too,” Tiu explained the student-athletes’ decision in an exclusive interview.

Both Daja and Gaspay played for La Salle in recent preseason tournaments including Pinoyliga and Filoil.

Gaspay, who will have two years of eligibility as a Blazer, is an athletic forward who stands out on both sides of the floor. With some development from CSB’s impressive coaching staff, he could become a stud in the NCAA.

“Gaspay is an all-around guy who just knows how to play,” Tiu expounded. “I’m sure it helps that two of Jake’s former teammates are in our team too and they probably want to play together.”

Tiu, who will lead Strong Group in the upcoming William Jones Cup, called Daja a “great shooter and good system guy.” Although he needs experience to further hone his skills as a basketball player, he still has five playing years with the Blazers – a lot of time to improve.

The Blazers are looking to secure their first NCAA title since 2000 and their second overall since joining the league’s men’s basketball tournament.

After failing to return to the finals last year the Blazers are loaded for Season 100 led by the likes of Allen Liwag, Justine Sanchez, and Tony Ynot, among other notable studs.
