Mapua Cardinals win NCAA championship, end 33-year drought
The Mapua Cardinals defeat the Benilde Blazers on a 2-0 run for the Finals series of NCAA Season 100. Game 2 concluded with 94-82, ending the Cardinals’ 33-year-long NCAA championship drought.
Cyrus Cuenco led the team with 19 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists. Team captain Clint Escamis registered 18 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Rookie of the Year Chris Hubilla recorded 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist. Lawrence Mangubat also recorded 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The Randy Alcantara-led team kept their momentum throughout the game, with their biggest lead of 16 points. After the heartbreaking Season 99 for the Mapua Cardinals, the celebration for the championship was overflowing of emotions.
Although the Benilde Blazers came short, the players’ passion was seen even on the scoreboard.
