The NU Lady Bulldogs remain undefeated, edging out the UST Growling Tigresses, 72-71, in a thrilling Game 1 of the Finals series. Maintaining their perfect record, the Bulldogs were led by Karl Ann Pingol, who delivered 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Senior Camille Clarin contributed 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Although pleased with the victory, Clarin acknowledged the team’s struggles in Game 1 and how they managed to bounce back.

“I’m very thankful that we won Game 1, and I’m looking forward to Game 2,” she said. “Even though we didn’t execute the way we wanted to, and we really struggled, we were able to come out on top. It just goes to show that when we rely on each other, great things happen.”

Despite the evident challenges, the Bulldogs reminded themselves of the sacrifices made throughout the season, which fueled their determination to secure the win.

“I think we looked back on the sacrifices that we all made. That’s what we talked about last night in our team meeting.”

Clarin added:

“We spent a year waiting for this moment. What’s another 10 minutes, 40 minutes? That’s nothing compared to the sacrifices that we’ve made. We relied on that, and we relied on each other.”

The NU crowd brought vibrant energy, passionately cheering for the Lady Bulldogs. Clarin expressed hope that this enthusiasm would carry over to the next game.

“To see people in the stands cheering for us, having that same passion that we do, it’s amazing. It’s an amazing feeling to be recognized for the work that we put in. I’m so glad the fans are finally paying attention to us,” Clarin shared with ALL-STAR. “We gave them a good game. I just hope that [the support] doubles or triples in the next game. They definitely played a big part in why we won.”

Looking ahead, Clarin hopes Game 2 will mark her final appearance as a Bulldog. Focused on minimizing mistakes and playing with aggression and poise, she aims to end her UAAP career on a high note.

“I’m looking forward to working tomorrow, fixing our mistakes, and really going into Game 2 aggressively, but poised as well. Hopefully, it’s my last game as a senior, my last game in the UAAP. I’ll just enjoy every moment of it.”
