Following a stellar final season in his high school career with NU-Nazareth, versatile big man Miguel Palanca has committed to join National University’s senior’s team, he confirmed on Thursday, March 27.

After recording 21 points and 13 boards in the Bullpups’ overtime loss in Game 3 against the UST Tiger Cubs, the 6-foot-6 standout expressed his eagerness to continue developing in Jeff Napa’s system.

“Gusto ko maka tulong sa seniors,” he told me in an exclusive interview. “Nakita ko hindi sila masyado nag re-recruit ng bigs. Hinihintay kami ni Solomon.”

Palanca mentioned he’s both excited and nervous to join the collegiate division of the UAAP, where he’s eager to once again test himself against FEU’s stud young standout Veejay Pre.

“Sa college sabi nila brute force. Dito makakapag dominate. Sa college more on IQ,” Palanca said.

“Gusto ko makalaban si Pre. One game (in high school), kinain niya ako. Mas magaling siya. Makakatulong saakin para maka reach yung bar.”

Palanca also expressed that the Bulldogs are motivated to win their first UAAP men’s basketball title since 2014.

Parang sa UST. Pag mas matagal hindi makuha yung championship, mas gutom. Masasabi ko ngayon upcoming season, gutom sila.”

Palanca averaged 10.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.1 block, and 57% FG shooting in Season 87 with the Bullpens.
