Quiambao leads way as La Salle trounces Ateneo in battle of rivals

The De La Salle Green Archers improved to 3-0 in UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball after using a dominant second half effort to defeat their rivals the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 74-61, on Sunday, September 15, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ateneo kept within striking distance of DLSU, trailing just by four at the half. That’s also the amount of points DLSU limited the Blue Eagles to in the entire third period where the defending champions built their double-digit lead and stayed in control the rest of the way.

Kevin Quiambao finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists, while big man Mike Phillips registered 13 points and 14 rebounds.

La Salle out-rebounded Ateneo 62-38 and out-shot them 39% to 32% from the field.

Shawn Tuano spearheaded the Blue Eagles’ attack with 18 points and 6 boards on 9-of-14 shooting.
