New-look NU stuns reigning UAAP champion La Salle

NU pulled off an early preseason statement with a 70-64 upset of La Salle as Reinhard Jumamoy led the Bulldogs with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Jacob Cortez nearly had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds for the Green Archers.

Benilde’s fourth-quarter burst sinks Perpetual

Benilde recovered from an eight-point third quarter and beat Perpetual, 71-62, behind Jhomel Ancheta’s 13 points and Allen Liwag’s 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Angelo Gelsano led the Altas with 13 points.

FEU gives Gilas Youth a tough SEABA tuneup

FEU dominated Gilas Pilipinas Youth, 83-58, as Janrey Pasaol and Kirby Mongcopa scored 13 each and Cabs Cabonilas added 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Bruce Tubongbanua stood out for Gilas Youth with 16 points in a learning game before the SEABA U18 qualifiers.

EAC opened its campaign with a 91-88 overtime escape over Arellano as Wilmar Oftana delivered 19 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, MJ Raymundo hit the dagger jumper off the bench, and rookie John Ray Ladica kept the Chiefs alive with 20 points and 7 rebounds

Reyes, Torculas usher San Beda into its post-title reset

Defending NCAA champion San Beda began life after Yukien Andrada, Bryan Sajonia, and Joe Celzo with a 75-67 win over San Sebastian as Jimmy Reyes had 17 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals, Aldous Torculas added 16 points and 5 rebounds, while Polo Gabat led the Stags with 17 points.

UP stayed unbeaten at 2-0 and took the early UAAP Group lead by holding off NU, 76-67, behind Veejay Pre’s 17-point, 10-rebound double-double and Rey Remogat’s 8 points and 11 assists, while Reinhard Jumamoy led the Bulldogs with 20 points

LPU bounced back from its opening-day loss by outlasting Arellano, 82-75 in overtime, behind Renz Villegas’ 22 points and Matthew Rubico’s 14-point, 9-assist, 7-rebound line, while Basti Valencia scored 16 and John Ray Ladica added 15 for the Chiefs in their second straight overtime heartbreak.

Estrada, Manalili lift Letran past Benilde in contender clash

Letran picked up its first win by edging Benilde, 75-71 in overtime, as Jimboy Estrada powered the Knights with 21 points and Titing Manalili scored five of his 14 in the extra period, while Allen Liwag led the Blazers with 13 points and 6 rebounds

Mangubat catches fire as JRU grabs early NCAA lead

JRU improved to 2-0 and seized the early NCAA bracket lead with a 66-54 win over Perpetual as Lawrence Mangubat scored 21 points, including an 11-point personal run that broke the game open, while rookie Damme De Guzman paced the Altas with 8 points.

Amos’ corner three saves La Salle from UST

Mason Amos buried the go-ahead corner triple with 5.6 seconds left to give La Salle its first win, 79-78 over UST, finishing with 13 points alongside Jacob Cortez’s 13 points and 6 assists, while Collins Akowe had 16 points and 13 rebounds and Mark Llemit also scored 16 for the now 0-2 Tigers.

San Beda stays unbeaten with rout of LPU

San Beda improved to 2-0 after blasting Lyceum, 102-77, as Daniel Marcelo posted 17 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds, Aldous Torculas added 15, and Renz Villegas paced the Pirates with 20 points in their fall to 1-2.

NU rides third-quarter surge past undermanned Adamson

NU secured its second win in three games by beating Adamson, 74-66, with Mo Diassana and PJ Palacielo scoring 11 each, while Noah Pacquiao led the Soaring Falcons’ losing effort with 19 points

Benilde evened its record at 3-3 by turning a 48-all halftime deadlock into a 91-68 rout of San Sebastian, with Matt Jucom scoring 16, Justine Sanchez adding 11, and the Stags getting 16 from Acosta and 14 from Ricio as they fell to 0-4.

Nunag, Raymundo power EAC out of skid against Perpetual

EAC snapped through with an 84-63 win over Perpetual behind 13 points each from Nunag and MJ Raymundo, while Casinillo led the Altas with 10 as Perpetual dropped to 1-4.
