Sedrick Barefield declares for 2024 PBA Draft

The 2024 PBA Draft has received a jolt of excitement when it comes to potential superstar power.

Explosive guard Sedrick Barefield has decided to join this year’s draft, his representation confirmed to ALL-STAR Magazine. His application has been submitted to the league office, marking a new era in his career.

The dynamic 6-foot-2 playmaker is a candidate to go early in the selection process, providing PBA franchises with the option of adding a star-caliber talent to change their franchise’s future outlook.

Experienced at 27-years-old, Barefield’s career has taken him from the United States to Lithuania, Greece, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Africa. The Corona, California native shined as a high school senior and recorded three successful seasons with Utah in US NCAA Div 1 action. He’s also played in the NBA G-League, in Europe, and Asia, particularly at the EASL.

Barefield, who is represented by agents Nadine Jamal, Anthony Brodett, and Deshaun Harris, previously thought about applying for last year’s PBA Draft but opted not to as he chose to explore a playing opportunity in Taiwan. At a time where exciting talent is joining the PBA, Barefield will be one of those who shines the most.

Born to a Filipina mother and father who also played US NCAA college basketball, Barefield is an explosive scorer who can create scoring opportunities both on and off ball. He’s quick, strong, and athletic. He is tremendous when attacking in transition, which will fit a fast-paced system often desired by PBA teams.

Barefield’s entry strikes a very interesting conversation on who Converge should take with the top overall pick. The alluring talent has seen how franchises like Ginebra, San Miguel, and Meralco have operated up close because of his time in the EASL, and would welcome the opportunity to play there, according to league sources.

The PBA Draft is scheduled on Sunday, July 14, at Glorietta Mall. The Draft Combine will take place at Ynares Arena in Pasig from July 10-11.
