The UP Fighting Maroons are ending what has been an eventful offseason for the team by competing at the 2024 Yangming Marine Cross-League Basketball Invitational to be held in Taiwan from August 24-31.

The Fighting Maroons departed the Philippines on Friday, August 23, and will play their first game on Saturday at 7:00PM. The matchups will take place at the Keelung City Stadium with admission being free of charge for the locals and streaming available on YouTube.

The league is made up of 8 teams. In addition to University of the Philippines, professional squads from Taiwan and two collegiate squads from Bangkok will participate.

The Fighting Maroons, who have made the UAAP Finals in each of the last three seasons, began their impressive offseason by going undefeated in the Pinoyliga Cup – before bowing out of the competition – and swept the Filoil tournament all the way to the championship.

The collegiate powerhouse then went undefeated in their tune-up games against pro and club teams in Serbia then went 3-4 against KBL squads during their recent trip to Korea: 1-1 vs. LG Sakers, 1-0 against KT Sonicboom, 1-1 vs. KCC Egis, and 0-2 vs. Hyundai Mobis Phoebus).

The Fighting Maroons also recently swept a pair of tune-ups against Hyundai here in Manila.

UP will open its quest for a fourth straight finals appearance and second UAAP title in that span when they tip-off their season against Ateneo on Saturday, September 7, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

State U is the host school for UAAP Season 87 and has elaborate plans for the opening ceremonies.
