Chalk a win up for the UE Red Warriors.
In a battle between winless UAAP teams, the UE Red Warriors handed the FEU Tamaraws their second consecutive collapse by prevailing in a tightly-fought game down the wire, 56-51, on September 18, Wednesday.
UE’s win was spearheaded by Gjerard Wilson and Ethan Galang, two Red Warriors playing in their second seasons under head coach Jack Santiago.
Wilson, who played with confidence and aggression in the second half, scored all his 10 points in the final frame, finishing with an 80% shooting clip. His two three-balls midway through the quarter propelled UE’s comeback bid.
Galang finished with 10 points and 3 steals. He scored his team’s final 8 points. His first contested three-ball tied the game at 51. Moments later from the same spot, he hit another deep ball to give UE the lead for good. His free throws in the final seconds put the game away from FEU’s grasp.
After a troublesome start to their season, UE turned the page. They have two gunners to thank in large part.
