Ateneo Blue Eagles Recruit 6-foot-6 Guard Logan Baltazar
Logan Baltazar is taking his talents from the Bay Area to the Philippines, joining one of the most storied programs in college basketball: the Ateneo Blue Eagles. At just 20 years old, the 6’6” wing has officially committed to Ateneo and will join the team’s UAAP lineup after completing his residency year.
Baltazar’s journey has already spanned multiple levels of U.S. college basketball. “I played 2 years all in total in college,” he shared. “I played my first year in the NCAA at Whittier College in Los Angeles. And then entered the transfer portal, picked up many offers from different colleges but decided to choose Cañada College.”
The decision to go the JUCO route paid off. In the 2024–25 season at Cañada College, Baltazar posted solid numbers: 10 points per game, 42% shooting from the field, along with 5 rebounds and 1.3 assists. His length, versatility, and two-way upside caught the attention of Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin, who began recruiting him shortly after.
Baltazar admits he wasn’t familiar with Ateneo initially. “After Cañada College, I was being recruited by Tab Baldwin. Didn’t know much about Ateneo, but when I came to visit in April, I instantly fell in love with the school. The team was welcoming, and the coaches were great and filled with knowledge. The culture at Ateneo is amazing, and so inviting.”
The decision to join Ateneo is a full-circle moment for the full-blooded Filipino. “Being able to be full Filipino and play basketball at Ateneo is a dream come true! The coaches and team culture really pushed me to commit.”
Baltazar originally turned down an opportunity out of high school to join Adamson University, opting instead to begin his collegiate career in the U.S. Now, after two years of college ball and a deeper sense of where he wants to grow, he’s ready for a new chapter in the UAAP.
“I just came back from Manila actually,” he added. “I was there on the Ateneo visit in April, and I go to Manila in August. I will be sitting out a residency year this upcoming season, but the next season I will be eligible for the UAAP.”
The move also brings reunions. “Chance Carlton – I’ve known since I was a little kid. He actually played basketball with my older brother Ethan Baltazar. We grew up around the same area and played high school basketball against each other.”
He also shares a strong connection with another Blue Eagle, Kymani Ladi. “Me and him were supposed to go together last year but I opted to stay in California for the year. He showed me around Manila when I was visiting. We actually played on the same team for one game, when Tab Baldwin flew to watch both of us.”
Baltazar also mentioned getting to know teammates Kyle Gamber and Shawn Tuano, describing the team environment as “great.”
As he prepares for his move to Manila, Logan Baltazar brings with him a well-rounded game, a strong work ethic, and a deep sense of pride in representing his roots. For Ateneo, he could be a key piece in the next generation of UAAP contenders.
