BREAKING: Renejay Leaves Aurora
In a Facebook post, Aurora Gaming announced the departure of Renejay Barcarse, roamer of its MPL team.
“Today, we announce Renejay’s departure from Aurora Gaming. While we’ll certainly miss his presence in our team, we fully support his decision to embark on a new chapter.
“Renejay has been a cornerstone of our team for nearly a year, and his impact on the Filipino roster’s success was truly remarkable. You, our fans, witnessed firsthand his incredible skill and dedication as he greatly contributed to achievements.
“Renejay, we extend our deepest gratitude to you for your unwavering commitment and all the memorable moments you created with Aurora. But if we ever meet on the battlefield – watch out.
P.S. Our new roamer will be announced soon.”
In a previous interview with ALL-STAR, Renejay revealed he was still deciding on his future in esports after Aurora was eliminated in the MPL PH Season 15 playoffs.
“Will you return next season?” we asked him.
“Sa ngayon hindi ko masabi pero depende talaga sa mga pangyayari ngayon,” Renejay replies, his voice steady but subdued. “Parang 50-50 pa ako sa next season sa ngayon. Hindi ko pa sure kung ano ang magiging plano ng team, at saka syempre, yung plano ko rin sa personal life ko. Hindi ko pa sure kung itutuloy ko pa o magpapahinga ako.”
(“For now, I can’t really say—it all depends on what happens,” Renejay replies, his voice steady but subdued. “I’m kind of 50-50 about next season. I’m not sure yet what the team’s plans are, and of course, I also have to think about my personal life. I’m still unsure if I’ll continue or take a break.”)
“Para sa akin, okay lang naman na hindi ko nakuha ang championship ngayon, siguro hindi pa rin siya para sa akin sa ngayon,” he adds, a faint smile tracing his lips—the kind people wear when they’re trying not to cry. “Siguro… parang nt (nice try) lang.”
(“For me, it’s okay that I didn’t get the championship this time—maybe it still isn’t meant for me right now. Maybe… it’s just an NT. A nice try.”)
‘Big 3’ Reunion?
Renejay’s departure from Aurora adds fuel to the rumors that the “Big 3” or Renejay, Yawi, and H2W0, will reunite with MPL icon Dogie, who recently shared that he planned on bringing the trio together. The three became teammates under Dogie’s team Nexplay in 2021 where they became known as the Big 3 because of their immense popularity and following on social media.
As of this writing, there is no confirmation on whether Renejay will transfer to a new team or take a rest from esports.
According to Aurora Gaming country manager Elrasec Ocampo, aka Boss Rada, they were fortunate Renejay decided to play for them for one year.
“Masuwerte pa kami kasi sa amin lang pumayag na one year ang lalaruin niya with us,” Ocampo told ALL-STAR.
(“We were even lucky because of all the teams, it was with us where he agreed to play for a year.”)
Renejay’s Esports Journey
Renejay made his MPL debut with Nexplay during Season 6 (2020). He remained with them through Seasons 7, 8, 9, and 10 — solidifying his reputation, especially during the “Big Three” era — before departing in early 2023.
Rejoining the MPL stage, Renejay moved to Blacklist International for Season 11 (which began in February 2023). He served as a stand-in for the SEA Games SIBOL qualifiers and played the full Season 11 with the Codebreakers. Season 12 was Renajay’s breakout year with Blacklist. Following the hiatus of OhMyV33nus and Wise, Renejay stepped up as starting roamer and led the team to the MPL PH grand finals and secured a ticket to the M5 World Championship.
After a season off following his stint with Blacklist, Renejay returned to competitive MPL action by joining Aurora Gaming in Season 14 (July 2024), assuming the role of veteran roamer on their inaugural MPL PH roster. He played for two seasons in Aurora, capping Season 15 with some of his best performances in the MPL.
