Ateneo Fencer Ethan Santos Wins Bronze in Malaysia

Twelve-year-old fencing standout Ethan Ericson Jabez O. Santos of Ateneo de Manila University added another feather to his cap after winning bronze at the 4th MFF Minime International 2025, held from October 29 to November 2, 2025.

Representing Team Ateneo and the Philippines, the young athlete showcased skill and composure, standing out among a strong international field in Kuala Lumpur to make his fellow countrymen proud.

Despite his age, Santos has already carved a reputation as one of the country’s most promising youth fencers. His steady streak of podium finishes across local and international events highlights his growing prowess and consistency in competition.

In 2025 alone, Santos captured a gold medal at the PFA 3rd Leg National Open in Pasig City (October), earned silver at the Oblation Fencing Cup (August), and secured another bronze at the Bangkok Open (Individual Event) earlier this year. He also represented the Philippines in top-tier youth fencing circuits in Singapore and Hong Kong, including the Kowloon Bay International 2023 Allstar.

Ethan’s fencing journey began in grassroots tournaments such as the Labanag Espada Series and Ezkrima National Competitions, where he collected multiple gold and bronze medals between 2021 and 2023. His consistent rise continued through the Republic Fencing Nationals, Ignatus Cup, and PFA Excalibur Tournament, regularly placing among the best in both individual and team categories.

The 2024–2025 season further cemented his reputation, with Santos claiming gold in the Republic Fencing Young Musketeers U13 division and bronze in U15, proving his ability to challenge and defeat older, more experienced opponents.

As Santos continues to sharpen his skills and gain international exposure, his latest win in Malaysia adds another milestone to what is shaping up to be a remarkable fencing career for one of the country’s brightest young athletes.
