Alas Girls Secure Historic 15th-Place Finish in FIVB U17 World Championship
Alas Pilipinas Girls finished their historic FIVB Girls’ U17 World Championship campaign in 15th place after beating Czechia in four sets, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-22, at Parque Estadio Nacional in Chile.
The Philippines entered the tournament ranked No. 25 in the world but climbed its way to finish 15th after advancing to the Round of 16.
Caera Celis led the Philippines with 25 points against Czechia and finished the tournament third overall in total points with 162, while ranking fourth in attack points with 141.
Meanwhile, Xyz Rayco recorded the tournament’s ninth-highest total of successful receives with 38 and averaged 9.33 points per match. Nadeth Herbon also ranked 11th in digs with 95.
The 15th-place finish also surpassed the Alas Men’s 19th-place finish at the 2025 FIVB World Championship, where the Philippines narrowly missed out on a Round of 16 berth.
The United States eventually captured the gold medal after sweeping Türkiye, 25-23, 25-11, 25-23, in the final.
