The UE Red Warriors extended their winning streak to four games despite missing one of their key players on the court during their battle against the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

Ethan Galang was seen on the team’s bench with his teammates, but not part of the playing line-up. Despite his absence, Precious Momowei and Wello Lingolingo stepped up to end a 14-game losing streak against the blue and white.

Momowei finished the game with 18 points, 3 assists, 15 rebounds, and 1 block, while Lingolingo had 13 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds.

“He has a parang sprain lang sa knee, pero it’s just weak lang yung kanyang muscle, so kailangan nya lang ipahinga pero nothing serious.” Coach Jack shared with ALL-STAR about Galang’s status.

The plan is for him to return in time for their game against the Adamson Soaring Falcons on Sunday, October 6.

Momowei was seen with an oxygen mask during one of the late-game timeouts, but it was nothing serious. He played a total of 40 minutes – the entire game – which led to him needing to catch his breath in the latter parts of the matchup.

“He played 40 minutes, he’s okay, he’s fine. It’s normal that we have the oxygen for the players.”

Being a leader on the court is what the foreign student-athlete used to lead his team to another win. He says that he trusted Coach Jack’s game plan which made his 40-minute playing time worth it. His confidence came from how much trust he was given to lead the team and be on the court for an extended period of time.

“Honestly, I only found out that I played for 40 minutes after the game but I guess it was worth it.” Momowei shared.  “I also think it’s more about the trust that coach Jack has on me, he trusts me to be a leader out there so I’m just doing the best I could to secure a win.”

Coach Jack Santiago called on the UE community to continue supporting them in their upcoming games as they aim to make the Final Four. It helps them be motivated and strive harder. His team’s continuous plan is to just stick to the game plan and remain consistent.

“Well, for sure, the UE community, they’re happy right now, but again I’m calling the UE community to support the team. It will give us extra strength sa support nila.” Santiago said.
