Wello Lingolingo stepped up for game day despite bad practice
UE Red Warriors veteran Wello Lingolingo converted a last-minute 3-pointer shot against the NU Bulldogs to create the gap, which resulted in a victory in a close game.
Stepping up for his team is the mindset Lingolingo has. Despite missing his family from back home in the province and having a bad practice before coming into the game, the long-range sniper secured the win for his Red Warriors by smoothly shooting two free throws in the final seconds of the game.
“It feels great, it feels new to me. Kasi binunot pa din ako ni coach on the crucial parts of the game. So he trusted me so much and hindi ko siya kayang biguin. Nung nashoot ko yung 3-points nadala ako ng emosyon ko, ang saya sobra,” he shared to ALL-STAR.

It had been a decade since the Red Warriors had a 3-game winning streak in UAAP men’s basketball. The shooter from Lanao Del Norte trusted Coach Jack Santiago’s program and team system, which helped him become a key player.
“Need ko na din mag step up sa tagal ko na din sa UE as one of the seniors. Nilaro ko lang din yung inassign sakin ni coach na playing style, so parang sinusunod ko lang sya and I trust in him and gumana naman.”
Coach Jack’s system has been working efficiently for the Red Warriors, especially for Wello Lingolingo. It’s a team effort, however.
“Number one is I always tell him to take the shot since he’s my number one shooter. As long as every time I tell him na don’t rush anything, i-square natin and no forced shots. Actually, he had a bad practice before going into this game, he missed his family in the province, but when I needed Wello down the stretch, nag step up naman siya,” Santiago said.
“Confidence lang din to, kasi nanalo nga kami, pero sabi nga ni coach na wag maging complacent,” Lingolingo shared. “We still go hard sa practice. Kailangan uhaw pa din sa panalo para tuloy-tuloy yung journey namin papuntang Final Four.”
The Red Warriors are now 3-2 after a tough start to Season 87.
