How Dancing and Love Help Kyle Gamber Find His Balance

Kyle Gamber’s TikTok presence might make it seem like dancing is a serious part of his life. The videos, the music, and the way he naturally breaks into a dance whenever a song comes on have become part of how people know him, but Gamber doesn’t really see it that way.

For him, dancing has always been something he does simply because he enjoys it.

Dancing Just for Fun

That relationship with dancing started long before the videos. Growing up watching the Jabbawockeez and following whatever dances were trending, Gamber naturally found himself moving along to music whenever he could. High school eventually gave that hobby an unexpected audience when he went viral simply by being himself.

“When I was in high school, I just so happened to go viral just for being myself, really. Growing up, I always watched the Jabbawockeez, and then I was always doing trending dances.”

Going viral didn’t suddenly turn dancing into a career for Gamber. He still treats it as something casual, something he can return to whenever he hears a song he likes rather than something he needs to constantly work on. There is a part of him, however, that wonders what could happen if he took it more seriously someday.

“It’s something I do for fun. I don’t really stress it too much. Maybe I should make it more of a profession and take it more serious. But it’s just something I do for fun.”

Music remains enough to bring that side of him out. Even without a camera or a TikTok trend waiting for him, Gamber admits that dancing simply comes naturally whenever he’s listening to his favorite songs. It has become another part of his personality rather than something he feels the need to label as a passion.

“If you catch me listening to music, I’m probably going to be dancing.”

Finding Comfort Beyond the Court

Basketball, however, is where the stakes become much higher.

Away from the lightheartedness of TikTok, Gamber has someone who helps him deal with the pressure that comes with being an athlete. His relationship with Kai Oani has become an important part of his everyday life, especially because they both understand what it means to deal with the highs and lows of competing.

After a difficult game, she is often the first person to check on him.

“After today, today was a tough game for me. She’s the first person that’s going to reach out to me and make sure I’m okay, make sure I’m level-headed.”

Their relationship isn’t limited to conversations after difficult games. They also train together, shoot together, lift together, and push each other toward the goals they have set for themselves. Having someone who understands the demands of basketball makes those sessions feel less like another obligation and more like something they can work through together.

“Sometimes we get in the gym together, we lift, we shoot. Just always pushing each other and trying to strive for our goals.”

That shared understanding becomes even more important when basketball stops being fun.

Both athletes know how quickly a bad game can affect someone’s confidence, which is why they try to provide each other with something that competition can’t always offer. Instead of adding more pressure, they give each other a place where they can simply be themselves and recover.

“The pressure of basketball is already there. So we try to be more of a comfort, more understanding of situations. And when things get tough, we try to be more of a relief for each other because basketball is not always the happiest thing ever.”

Gamber keeps the more personal details of their relationship private, but he doesn’t hide what Kai means to him. His answer is playful at first, but underneath the jokes is someone who has found a person he can rely on every day.

“She’s the GOAT. That’s the wife. Not literally the wife, but she means a lot to me. And she’ll be around for a while.”

That support matters even more when both of them are away from their families. Living and competing away from home can make the difficult days feel heavier, but Gamber knows he has someone nearby who understands exactly what he’s going through.

“She takes care of me. She loves me. She’s a support system. We don’t have our families out here necessarily. So, yeah, she’s a support system as well. But she’s also my best friend, so I’m able to go to her every day for anything I need.”

Finding His Balance

Basketball can be demanding, especially on the days when things don’t go the way Gamber wants them to. Having someone who understands that pressure, while also giving him a space where he doesn’t have to be an athlete all the time, has become an important part of how he handles those moments.

And maybe that is where Gamber finds his balance. He can step onto the court and give everything he has, then walk away from it, put on some music, and simply be himself. Whether that means training with Kai, talking through a bad game, or dancing when a good song comes on, he has found little ways to make the pressure feel a little lighter.
