Jacob Bayla’s rise isn’t slowing down anytime soon. After helping the UP Fighting Maroons not just reach but win the UAAP Season 87 championship against La Salle, the incoming sophomore guard is building momentum on and off the court.

Bayla played a key role throughout the finals, including a standout defensive effort in Game 1 where he disrupted league MVP Kevin Quiambao and led the team in plus-minus.

Fresh off that UAAP title, Bayla was the only non-local player invited to the Adidas Nations Camp in Tokyo. He didn’t just show up – he stood out. Bayla was named to the camp’s Best 5 and led his team with 15 points in the all-star game. The camp featured coaching from former professional players out of the United States and NBL.

“Great, it was amazing. I was the only non-local there. Good coaching and overall a great experience. I learned a lot,” the spirited standout said.

Next up could be Adidas Eurocamp, with selections expected soon. Bayla told me he’s hopeful that what he showcased in Tokyo is enough to earn him a spot.

His recent performances add weight to the multi-year endorsement deal he signed with Adidas in February 2025.

“They’re all about family and giving back. Adidas just feels like home to me,” Bayla said.

Bayla has also been working with Better Basketball, a program run by coach Patrick Tancioco, to sharpen his offensive game – particularly becoming more aggressive with the ball. With championship experience, high-level training, and international exposure, he’s coming into UAAP Season 88 looking more complete and more dangerous than ever.
