Chicco Briones is pumped for Season 87, hopes to take down Ateneo

As the opening for UAAP Season 87 Men’s Basketball beckons, the UP Fighting Maroons are excited. A microcosm for that is incoming second-year shooter Chicco Briones.

Briones shared that he is pumped for the season’s return and is thrilled to be in the opening game for UAAP Season 87 versus the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

“To be really honest, I’m really excited. I’m really pumped because these are the big games that we really look forward to,” he shared.

Chicco is determined for the game versus Ateneo, hoping to win to establish the mood for the rest of the season. 

“Ateneo’s like one of the big schools that we really want to take down and really set the tone for the upcoming season. Yeah, definitely excited.”

The UP Men’s Basketball Team fell short of a championship last Season 86 against the De La Salle Green Archers. The series concluded at 73-69, with DLSU bagging the championship.

Although it wasn’t what UP fans had hoped for last season, they continued to show love and support for the team. Here are a few loving words from Briones:

“Thank you for supporting us through thick or thin. You’re always there, and I appreciate you all. I love you all,” 

“Keep supporting us this upcoming season, and we’ll try our best to win the championship for you guys.”

Despite only playing for short minutes last year, Briones is confident he will do more for this season and win back the crown for Diliman.
