Creamline’s Erica Staunton Was Overwhelmed By Filipinos’ Love for Volleyball
Erica Staunton, import for Creamline Cool Smashers’ PVL Reinforced Conference roster, debuted her pro volleyball career in the Philippines, and it was the experience of a lifetime. Among the things that stood out for her was the overwhelming support from the fans.
“I think pro volleyball or even college volleyball in the States is not getting the love or the fan appreciation like here in the Philippines. It’s unbelievable here! Every volleyball player should experience something like this!” Staunton told ALL-STAR.
According to Staunton, people in other countries should start appreciating volleyball for the great sport that is. She added how Filipino fans are ahead of everyone else.
“The fans in the Philippines are just ahead of the game in appreciating volleyball. It’s an amazing sport, and once people give it a chance, they will really buy into it. That’s what we’re seeing here,” said Staunton.
Erica Staunton: ‘I feel very spoiled’
Throughout the awarding ceremony, fans screamed Erica’s name, asking for photos and autographs. The import was overwhelmed.
“I feel very spoiled that I’ve gotten to experience it,” said Staunton.
Asked whether she expected that level of support from the fans, she admitted it was beyond her imagination.
“I definitely did not expect it. Starting this conference, I heard about how big Creamline is and how dedicated their fans are and how much they love their players. But to experience that firsthand, it was super special, especially that moment out there. It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced or maybe will ever experience,” Staunton said.
“Playing in this conference could be a lot of pressure but I was really just enjoying the moment and appreciating the moment and just being grateful that I’m here in this experience,” she added.
Creamline Cool Smashers swept Akari Chargers 3-0 on September 4 during the finals match of the PVL Reinforced Conference.
