Former Ateneo Blue Eagle and UAAP champion Paul Garcia has signed a two-year rookie contract with Barangay Ginebra in the PBA, his agent Charlie Dy of VP Global Management confirmed to ALL-STAR Magazine on Monday, August 5.
Garcia, 25, was taken in the third round of the 2024 PBA Draft, going 34th overall. For a third round pick to be rewarded a two-year deal speaks to the dedication and work ethic of the Maryland, USA native.
According to Dy, what motivated Ginebra to sign the outside sniper was his work ethic and ability to fit in a system. These are important traits for head coach Tim Cone when finding players to bring in his team.
Dy also mentioned that Garcia is thankful to Ateneo (UAAP), Pampanga (MPBL), and Quezon (MPBL) for giving him the opportunities to improve his game and get ready for his PBA career.
Garcia was important for Ginebra in their victory over New Taipei in a recent exhibition match held in Macau. The former Blue Eagle recorded 7 points in the fourth quarter alone, providing his PBA squad a cushion to escape with the victory.
Like he did in the UAAP, Garcia will compete for championships when wearing the uniform of his pro team.
