Promising student-athlete Russel Ogana has made a significant decision in his basketball career, confirming to ALL-STAR Magazine that he is transferring to the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons after previously being with the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers’ Team B.

Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 190 pounds with an impressive 9.3% body fat and a 35-inch vertical leap, Ogana is poised to bring athleticism and versatility to the Fighting Maroons. At just 19 years old, the shooting guard from Marilao, Bulacan, has already shown flashes of potential, particularly in the PG FLEX Invitational Tournament by UCAL.

During the tournament, Ogana averaged 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist in just 22 minutes per game. He saved his best performance for the finals, where he delivered 17 points and 4 rebounds in DLSU’s title-winning victory over UP. His clutch contributions in the fourth quarter proved crucial in securing the championship for the Green Archers.

While Ogana expressed gratitude for his time with DLSU, he sees his move to UP as a chance to unlock his full potential. “It’s a better opportunity for myself. I’m very grateful to Coach Topex Robinson and DLSU for getting me in their program. It’s all positive naman. I’m grateful to him, the management, coaches, and my teammates,” he shared.

Ogana will undergo residency in UAAP Season 88 before becoming eligible to play in Season 89. With three years of eligibility left, he is eager to contribute to a Fighting Maroons program that has become a powerhouse under the leadership of Coach Goldwin Monteverde.

“Ready and excited din po ako sa bagong chapter po ng basketball career ko sa UP to see my full potential din po sakanila,” Ogana said.

The Fighting Maroons’ roster depth will be a challenge for Ogana, as he competes for a lineup spot. However, with the graduation of key perimeter players like Terrence Fortea, Harold Alarcon, Reyland Torres, and Gerry Abadiano, there may be opportunities for the young guard to shine.

For now, Ogana’s focus is on preparing for the next chapter in his career with UP. If his past performances are any indication, the Fighting Maroons may have secured another valuable piece in their quest to continue competing for the UAAP crown.
