Froilan Maglasang, fresh off a stellar high school basketball career, stands at a pivotal moment in his athletic journey. The standout point guard recently concluded his tenure with Ateneo de Cebu’s Magis Eagles, leaving a lasting legacy that includes multiple championships and a Finals MVP award in the 2024 CESAFI tournament. Now, with his sights set on the collegiate level, Maglasang is hoping to make his mark in Manila, home to the highly competitive UAAP and NCAA leagues.
A Legacy of Excellence
Maglasang’s time with Ateneo de Cebu has been nothing short of remarkable. Beginning his journey with the program during elementary school, he accumulated numerous accolades, including a championship at the 2023 Palarong Pambansa. However, his high school finale—a championship victory coupled with an MVP nod—stands out as a defining moment in his career.
He scored an important 20 points in his team’s game two triumph to secure the championship. He was also hailed as the league’s best three-point shooter during the all-star festivities and is a part of the Mythical Five.
“Finishing my high school career with a championship, more so an MVP award, makes it my most memorable experience so far in my basketball career,” Maglasang shared.
His performance throughout his high school years reflects not only his skill but also the disciplined training he received under the guidance of Coach Rommel Rasmo. Known for his leadership on the court and sharp shooting, particularly from beyond the arc, Maglasang has grown into a versatile and reliable player.
Looking to the Future
As Maglasang transitions from high school to college, his aspirations remain clear: to pursue a college degree while continuing his basketball career at the varsity level. He believes his years of experience with the Magis Eagles have prepared him for the challenges ahead.
“For teams that will recruit me, they can expect a team player. As a point guard with very good shooting skills, especially from the three-point line, they will have a player who can direct the team’s offense and at the same time can score when the opportunity comes,” Maglasang explained.
While his skill set makes him a promising prospect, Maglasang acknowledges the areas he needs to improve. Competing in Manila will likely mean going up against taller, stronger players, a challenge he’s ready to face head-on.
“What I will probably lack in height and size will be compensated with my experience as a point guard of a team with championship experience. I probably need to bulk up in order for me to play against players in Manila who are bigger than me,” he admitted.
A Team Player with Championship DNA
Maglasang’s appeal as a recruit lies not only in his individual skills but also in his ability to integrate into a team. His tenure with Ateneo de Cebu has instilled a winning mindset, making him a valuable addition to any collegiate program. His defensive capabilities, leadership qualities, and knack for clutch shooting add to his well-rounded game.
Reflecting on his journey, Maglasang expressed gratitude to Ateneo de Cebu for shaping both his basketball career and his character. “I will surely miss Ateneo de Cebu and my teammates who I consider my brothers. Looking forward to what the future brings to me,” he said.

Whether he lands in the UAAP or NCAA, the next chapter of Froilan Maglasang’s basketball story is bound to be an exciting one. For now, he remains a name to watch—one that Manila’s collegiate programs would do well to consider.
As Maglasang awaits his next opportunity, one thing is clear: his journey is only just beginning, and he is determined to make the most of it.
