Toronto’s Dick Weighs in on the Idea of a 4-Point Line in the NBA

During the NBA 2025 All-Star Weekend Rising Stars media availability, Toronto Raptors’ sophomore guard Gradey Dick shared his thoughts on the potential addition of a 4-point line in the NBA. When asked for his “hot take,” Dick responded, “Maybe eventually a 4-point line would be pretty cool? It would be interesting.”

He elaborated on the idea, suggesting that positioning the line at a challenging distance could make it a viable addition:

“I’d have to think about it, but if you send it back far enough where it’s a tough shot, maybe.”

Reflecting on the rapid evolution of the game, particularly the volume of three-point shooting in the NBA, Dick added:

“At a higher rate, the game is changing so quick, but eventually, I don’t know, you put it in half court, maybe?”

This season, Dick has been a significant contributor to the Raptors, averaging 15.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game over 48 games. His shooting efficiency includes a field goal percentage of 41.4% and a three-point shooting percentage of 34.5%.

The concept of a 4-point line isn’t entirely new. The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) introduced a 27-foot arc, awarding four points for shots made beyond this distance. NBA player Kyle Kuzma expressed support for this innovation during a visit to the Philippines, stating, “I think it’s good for the game. It allows more space, and at the end of the day, a lot of us shoot deep threes everywhere.”

As the NBA continues to evolve, discussions about implementing a 4-point line may gain traction, especially with players like Gradey Dick and Kyle Kuzma showing interest in the idea.
