Koyl Never Really Wanted to Leave MPL PH

Sometimes, the opportunities that change our lives are the ones we never asked for. They arrive when we feel the least prepared, forcing us to confront the fears that tell us to stay where we are.

Kyle “Koyl” Reyes never really wanted to leave the Philippines, but life had other plans—and somehow, he found his way back home.

Far From Everything He Knew

When the opportunity to play in Cambodia came, going abroad was probably the last thing he had imagined for himself.

For a young player who had only recently stepped into the professional scene in MPL PH Season 15 and was still trying to establish himself, leaving the country to pursue his career overseas was a huge leap of faith.

“Ayoko po talaga mag-ibang bansa,” Koyl admitted to ALL-STAR Magazine.

Playing for Pro Esports in MPL Cambodia Season 10 marked the first time Koyl had ever flown out of the country.

He was stepping into a completely different world, far from everything he knew.

Language became one of his biggest adjustments, as his teammates did not speak much English. Fortunately, fellow Filipino import Salvick “Kouzen” Tolarba was there to serve as Koyl’s bridge into the team, helping him communicate, adapt, and eventually find his footing in Cambodia.

The adjustment was difficult, but Koyl slowly found his rhythm. What began as an unfamiliar environment gradually became a place where he could play, compete, and grow.

Finding His Footing
And then, Koyl began to win.

MPL Cambodia S10 became a defining chapter in Koyl’s promising career. He won his first MPL championship, claimed both the Regular Season and Finals MVP awards, and made his international debut at MSC 2026 in Paris, France.

More importantly, he helped Pro Esports capture its first championship in the league.

“Sobrang saya ko rin po kasi parang nakapagbigay ako ng trophy doon,” Koyl says.

His reluctant journey abroad had given him more than he could have imagined: a championship, individual recognition, and his first taste of international competition.

But even after finding success in Cambodia, there was still something missing.

MPL PH became his TOTGA.

Coming Back Home
After MSC 2026, where Pro Esports finished in fifth to eighth place, Koyl tried out for different teams in the Philippines before eventually finding his way to Aurora Gaming PH.

His decision to return was more than just a search for another competitive opportunity. He simply missed home.

“Na-miss ko rin po talaga sa ‘Pinas.”

Cambodia gave Koyl the success he was seeking, but home was still where he wanted to be.

Coming home, however, did not mean Koyl was done chasing success. If anything, his time abroad gave him a new standard to chase.

The Unfinished Business
For all that Koyl accomplished in Cambodia, he knows there is still more for him to accomplish. His work in MPL PH is far from finished.

If anything, his return gives him another opportunity to improve—and another chance to grow further in the league where his professional journey began.

“Kailangan ko po talaga patunayan [sarili ko] kasi alam ko na mas malaki pa ang ma-improve ko dito,” he says.

Despite lifting the Immortal Cup, earning both the Regular Season and Finals MVP awards, and reaching the MSC 2026 playoffs, Koyl remained grounded. Those achievements did not make him complacent. Instead, they pushed him to set even higher standards for himself.

Cambodia proved that Koyl had great potential all along and traits that make a champion. Now, he wants to prove that he can do it in the Philippines, too.

“Gusto kong patunayan na dito [sa Pilipinas] kaya kong mag-champion, hindi lang sa ibang bansa,” he says.

Koyl never really wanted to leave the Philippines. But perhaps he had to, if only to discover what he was truly capable of away from home.

Now, he is back where the journey began—with a championship already under his belt, a new standard to chase, and a familiar dream waiting for him.

This time, he doesn’t have to leave to find it.
