Shaira Ortile: The Girl Who Climbed a Rooftop to Chase a Dream in MLBB

There was a time when MLBB KOL Shaira Ortile had to climb onto the rooftop of her house just to catch an internet signal and play. But of all the struggles she endured, one memory remains particularly difficult to forget: the days when her family barely had enough food on the table.

Today, those struggles feel worlds away. The game she once played with her classmates has opened up a whole new world, taking her to places she once only dreamed of visiting.

But Shaira’s journey was never just about making it as a content creator. It was about building a life in which her family would no longer have to live the way they once did.

A Life of Survival
For Shaira, the struggle was not about having the latest phone or the best gaming setup. It was about the things many people take for granted: food on the table, money for healthcare, and the assurance that there would be enough to get through the day.

Growing up, Shaira knew what it meant to live without a safety net, where even getting through the day could be a struggle. There were times when her family could not afford three proper meals a day, while even medical expenses could become a burden.

When asked about the experiences she never wanted to go through again, Shaira recalled the difficulties her family faced in putting food on the table and paying for healthcare.

“Yung wala po kaming pangbili ng pagkain na pagkain na three times a day. Kasi dati, kung ano lang‘yung ulam namin sa umaga, tanghali, gabi, minsan ganun na rin para bukas. Pati po sa healthcare po ng mga parents ko, ayoko matulad sa nangyari po sa lola ko,” Shaira told ALL-STAR.

It was a simple answer, but one that put everything that followed into perspective.

The life Shaira would eventually build was not measured solely by the things she could afford. It was measured by the things her family would no longer have to go without.

Long before MLBB became her source of income, it was simply the game she loved. She played with her classmates, never imagining that their shared pastime would eventually open doors she never expected to walk through.

When her family could not afford Wi-Fi, she would climb onto their roof to catch a signal and play.

Then she saw other streamers and began to wonder whether she could do the same.

“Hindi ko rin po talaga akalain na mayroon din po talaga mo maibibigay ang Mobile Legends. Until sa nakita ko po ‘yung mga streamers, ang galing po nila. Tapos sabi ko sa sarili ko, hala, kung kaya nila, kaya ko rin,” she recalled.

What began as a pastime slowly became a possibility. Shaira could not have known how far that belief would take her, but she was willing to find out.

Selling Snacks, Saving for Dreams
In 2020, Shaira began streaming her games through Omlet Arcade. Without an elaborate setup, she used her cellphone camera to livestream and worked with whatever resources she had available.

Outside streaming, she sold biscuits, chocolates, junk food, and anything else she could sell. She saved her earnings until she could finally afford her first computer, worth around ₱20,000.

It was a significant investment for someone who knew how difficult it could be to make ends meet. But it was also an investment in a future she wanted to pursue.

Not everyone understood why she was doing it.

Her father initially believed she was wasting her time streaming. To him, spending hours playing a mobile game was difficult to reconcile with the practical demands of earning a living and helping provide for the family.

Shaira, however, continued. There was no guarantee that her streams would attract an audience or that her efforts would eventually translate into a stable income.

She had only her willingness to try and the belief that there might be something waiting for her if she kept going. She was building her dream one step at a time, even when the people closest to her could not yet see where it might lead.

When a Door Closes, Another One Opens
Streaming was not the only thing Shaira had going for her. She was also working as a call center agent and was close to being promoted to team leader.

But that opportunity did not materialize after she was caught using TikTok behind her account while at work.

Losing her job could have been a devastating setback, but looking back, Shaira sees it differently.

“Masaya po ko na buti pala natanggal ako,” Shaira jokingly said.

She explained that had she kept the job, she might have continued juggling her call center duties while playing MLBB.

What initially seemed like a misfortune eventually became a turning point in hindsight. It gave her a reason to pursue the possibilities developing outside the life she knew.

Still, streaming did not guarantee success. Shaira had to keep creating content, attract viewers, and build a community that would give her work a chance to grow into something sustainable.

As her audience grew, she discovered that she did not have to follow the same path as every other gaming creator to make a name for herself.

The Power of Being Herself
In a community where impressive mechanics, high ranks, and exceptional gameplay can make a creator stand out, Shaira found her own way to be noticed.

She did not have to be the best player. She just had to be herself, embracing her own quirks.

Known for her exaggerated reactions, comedic timing, and relatable content, she built her following through a personality viewers could recognize and return to.

Her streams offered something beyond gameplay: a place to laugh, unwind, and momentarily forget whatever troubles waited outside the screen.

Rather than building her identity around being an untouchable player, she allowed her audience to see the humor in the experience itself. That authenticity helped turn casual viewers into a community, with some even telling her that her content helped them get through difficult times.

For Shaira, the people watching her streams became more than an audience. They were also a source of support, helping turn her passion into a livelihood.

A Life Beyond Survival
For Shaira, the greatest measure of success is not simply how far she has come as a content creator. It is what that success has allowed her to do for the people she loves.

Through MLBB and the career she built around it, she was able to establish her own perfume business, buy a house and a car, and help put her siblings through school.

These achievements carry a different weight for someone who remembers when three meals a day were not always possible.

A house means her family has a place to call home. Her business gives her another source of income beyond streaming. And helping her siblings through school allows her to contribute to a future in which they, too, can pursue opportunities of their own.

Along the way, she also found love. Her in-game duo, Kerax, became her fiancé and soon-to-be husband. What began through their shared love of the game eventually grew into a relationship they hope to carry into the rest of their lives.

A phone, a dream, and the determination to keep going. That was where Shaira’s journey began.

Today, the girl who once struggled to make ends meet can help provide for her family. The streamer who sold snacks to buy her first computer has built a career and a business. And the player who climbed onto a rooftop to catch a signal has travelled to Paris for EWC 2026 last August because of the game she never stopped loving.

From the rooftop where she once searched for an internet signal to the streets of Paris, Shaira has come a long way from the life she once knew.

MLBB gave Shaira more than a livelihood. It gave her the opportunity to build a life she once could only imagine.

And perhaps, for someone who once struggled to put enough food on the table, the greatest victory is knowing that she can now give her family a future beyond the hardships they once endured.
