A Look At PUMA’s Philippine Men’s National Football Team Kits
Departing from the “Azkals” moniker, the Philippine Men’s National Football Team’s (PMNFT) turning over a new leaf is accompanied by new threads that provide a sense of nostalgia, unity, strength, and resilience. The PMNFT in collaboration with PUMA officially unveiled the squad’s kits at Bootcamp, West Gallery Place, Bonifacio Global City, last Tuesday, December 3, 2024, reportedly debuting at the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup later in the month.
Inking a four-year partnership in early 2024 resulted in the German multinational corporation taking creative direction as the team’s official outfitter, alongside its youth counterparts. The two-piece collection consists of home and away colorways, crafted with PUMA’s CLOUDSPUN fabric that promotes comfortability and sustainability, made with 95% recycled materials.
During the launch party, Philippine Football Federation National Teams Director Freddy Gonzalez spoke on the design approach, with their home kit drawing inspiration from the 1998 Tiger Cup (otherwise known as the AFF Championship) squad—reportedly the roster where Gonzales made his national team debut. The dual blue tones, dark accented elements, and muted red pallet simultaneously reimagines the Philippine sunrise as a symbol of hope and strength.
The minimalist-predominantly white-away jersey fuses remnants of Amihan, a recurring year-long theme, showcasing Filipinos’ resilience and ability to overcome challenges. A wind-like design populates its front, as the national flag’s sun (tributing the country’s three islands) symbol on its rear, and a v-neck collar completes its design.
The official 2024-25 PMNFT kits are now available in-store at Bootcamp, West Gallery Place, Bonifacio Global City, for ₱3,000.00 (jersey) and ₱2,500.00 (shorts) in their home and away colorways.
