In a significant move that underscores his rising prominence in Philippine collegiate basketball, Jacob Bayla, the dynamic wingman of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, has inked a multi-year endorsement deal with global sportswear giant adidas.
This partnership not only highlights Bayla’s burgeoning talent but also reflects adidas’s commitment to nurturing future stars in the UAAP.
As an incoming sophomore, Bayla has already made a notable impact on the court. His relentless energy and defensive prowess were pivotal in UP’s recent successes, including a crucial victory against the De La Salle University Green Archers in the UAAP Season 87 Finals. Reflecting on his journey, Bayla emphasized the importance of readiness and seizing opportunities, stating at that time, “Whenever I get in, I try to make an impact. Whether it’s on offense or defense.”
Bayla’s decision to align with adidas was influenced by the brand’s core values. “They’re all about family and giving back. Adidas just feels like home to me,” he remarked. This sentiment resonates with adidas’s philosophy of fostering a sense of community and support among its athletes.
Diego Dario, adidas Philippines Sports Marketing Consultant and a former Fighting Maroon, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “Jacob is a great addition to the adidas family. He’s a winner. He has a bright future ahead of him. More than his talent, it’s his passion, character, and work ethic that aligns with the brand. Great athlete, but an even better human being.”
The endorsement deal was facilitated through the collaborative efforts of Mangahas Sports Management and Edge International, ensuring that Bayla’s interests were well-represented throughout the negotiation process.
Notably, Bayla had garnered interest from other major brands, including Nike, and even donned their gear in some games. However, his preference for adidas, particularly the Lillard and Harden 9 models, played a significant role in his final decision.
This partnership comes on the heels of adidas extending its contract with reigning two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao, signaling the brand’s strategic focus on securing top-tier talent in the league. They also outfit the likes of Veejay Pre and Nic Cabañero. With Bayla’s addition, adidas continues to strengthen its presence and influence in Philippine collegiate basketball.
As Bayla prepares for his sophomore season with the UP Maroons, the support from adidas is poised to further elevate his performance and visibility.
