Nike introduces new Gilas Pilipinas basketball team kits

(Press release)

In a moment to celebrate a summer of sport, Nike reveals the 2024 Gilas Pilipinas national team kits for the men’s, women’s, 3X3, and youth basketball teams. Players will be wearing the most athlete-informed, data-driven, and visually unified team kit that the brand has ever produced.

To create the kit, Nike design teams first listened to the voice of the athlete, finding out their needs and preferences, then obsessed about every detail. The goal was to offer options that met athletes’ desires for choice, comfort, and performance.

Based on 4D motion-capture data algorithmically honed with pixel-level precision and engineered specifically for each competition, the kit was inspired by the distinct identity and diverse community that the country and the sport represent. The result was team kits that sport an entirely new chassis designed to answer the athletes’ preference for mobility and breathability and engineered to the exact specifications of the body in motion.

Combining Nike’s strengths in sport research and computational design with Dri-FIT ADV technology, the kits ensure that athletes will stay cool, dry and performance-ready. They strike a unique balance that provides athletes with both breathable and radical structures. The kits have adaptable vents, conforming to each athlete’s unique needs during play.

The road jerseys are in blue with yellow on the side, while the home uniforms are in white with touches of red and blue – colors that represent the Philippine flag. Inspired by Nike’s commitment to unity, diversity and inclusivity, the words “ANY, EVERY, ALL” is located discreetly on the bottom hem of the jerseys and translated in Tagalog.

“The colors remind me of the blue oceans that surround the Philippines with the yellow signifying the rays of the sun. They represent the aura and natural beauty of the Philippines in a soft and elegant way, symbolizing the hospitality that Filipinos have to offer,” said small forward Chris Newsome of the Gilas Men’s team.

Athlete insights continue to serve as a fundamental element that informs Nike design — including this year’s kit designs, says John Hoke, Nike Chief Innovation Officer. “Working directly with athletes throughout every stage of the design process, Nike designed garments to ensure fit across a range of body types and style preferences and infused real-time feedback throughout the entire product-development cycle.”

“I like the new jerseys, they are really nice. They are something new compared to our previous Gilas uniforms. They represent a new chapter for me and a new chapter for Gilas,” said June Mar Fajardo of the Gilas Men’s team, known in the basketball world as “The Kraken”.

The Philippines National Basketball Men’s Team will debut the kit on the court during the upcoming qualifiers in Latvia this July. The road jersey and fan tee collection releases July 3 exclusively on Nike.com, Nike Fort, and at Titan.
