Sabrina Ionescu Unveils Two Girls Got Game Courts in Bulacan
The culmination of Sabrina Ionescu’s Manila tour finds her at Sta. Maria Bulacan’s Sacred Heart Academy, unveiling two refurbished basketball courts. In partnership with Nike Philippines and Girls Got Game (GGG), the defending WNBA champion visited the GGG Home Court, where she spearheaded the ceremonies and a clinic focused on the sport’s fundamentals before joining a town fiesta and witnessing local competition.
“I want to thank you. I hope you guys enjoy this and keep on going forward. Continue to work really hard and chase your dreams,” Ionescu mentioned to the Manila campers.
Alongside Ionescu, Filipina artist and illustrator Jill Arteche, the creative mind behind GGG’s multipurpose courts, was in attendance. While this isn’t her first touchpoint with the Swoosh, she spoke on the opportunity of handling a project during International Women’s Month as something “daunting, yet exciting.”
“I think it’s always very special when I get projects during International Women’s Month because, as a woman in sports and art, I’m sure it’s difficult to be in it because of the stereotypes and norms,” she mentions.
For Arteche, working alongside a female icon such as Ionescu was another “surreal” encounter, as the New York Liberty Guard provided inputs with the design and revisions.
“She has broken barriers and achieved her dreams, and I wanted to create a space that not only invites young female athletes to confidently step onto the court, play, and embrace the game but also empowers them to chase their dreams with the same passion and drive,” she tells ALL-STAR Magazine.
