SJ Belangel on His Adidas Basketball Favorites and the ‘KQ 1’
Since debuting at the University Athletics Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) 81st season, Blue Eagle-turned-Pegasus SJ Belangel has pledged his allegiance to Adidas, donning their premier models that continue supplementing his success. Now reportedly a sneaker-free agent, he remains open to joining another brand but stepping out of a Three Stripe pair won’t be easy for the 25-year-old guard.
On an episode of Naveen Ganglani’s “The Navs Effect Podcast,” Belangel discussed his availability but still chooses to wear the Three Stripes’ signature silhouettes, given their familiarity and on-court feel. He briefly touched on his go-to pairs: the Adidas Harden 7 and the D.O.N. Issue 6—both essential to developing his game overseas.

“As of now, I’m a (sneaker) free agent pero siyempre binibigyan ako ng AdidasI love Adidas. Kung ano yung nasanay ng paa ko, yun yung gagamitin ko. Very important sa akin ngayon, especially to prevent any injuries,” Belangel addressed the podcast’s viewers..
The All-Star Magazine editor continued, inquiring about his experience with Kevin Quiambao’s Adidas Adizero Select 3.0 player exclusive (PE). While Belangel hasn’t gotten his hands on his fellow Korean Basketball League (KBL) import’s PE, he jokingly mentions its susceptibility to injury, with Quiambao only recently returning due to an apparent ankle ligament rupture early in January 2025.
“Waiting ako sa (Kevin Quiambao) PE, kaso na-injure kasi siya kaya natatakot ako mag-order,” he said.
“Nag-chat ako agad sa kanya kung kailan or if lalabas siya. Sabi niya oo, pero ayaw ko naman i-spoil,” he continued.
