Trae Young Is Jordan Brand’s Newest Member
Trae Young, once considered a key figure for adidas, is leaving to join Jordan Brand. The Atlanta Hawks All-Star originally signed with the Three-Stripes as a rookie, and in 2020, his contract was renegotiated as part of an extension. This led to the release of three signature shoes and a more affordable sneaker line called the “Trae Unlimited.”

Young took the news of his transfer to Instagram, collaborating on a post with Jordan Brand that features the 26-year-old guard decked out in Jumpman apparel with the caption: “The air just got colder”—a creative take on his “Ice Trae” moniker. Young teased the possibility of joining the Michael Jordan-established line, suiting up in the Air Jordan XXXIX and several classic silhouettes commencing the Hawks’ 2024-25 NBA Season.
He regards the opportunity as a no-brainer and simultaneously, bittersweet, given he missed out on the opportunity to don the Jumpman once Jordan Brand sponsored his alma mater, Oklahoma University, in 2018.
“To have the opportunity to join a brand that has a history of greatness is surreal. To me, it’s about setting the bar for the people that come after you. I’m grateful MJ did that for people like myself, and my goal is to try and continue that legacy for the young kids, including my brother, that are coming up after me,” Young mentioned in a press release.
“Oklahoma became a Jordan Brand school in 2018 right after I entered the NBA Draft. I remember thinking I wish I had the chance to rock the Jumpman in college, but it’s all come full circle. I’m excited to be a Jordan Brand athlete, and I’m sure there will be opportunities for OU and I to come together,” he continued.
