Why the Nike’s Sabrina 2 is Chris Newsome’s Current Favorite
Chris Newsome equips his trusted Nike Sabrina 2 “By You” as the fifth-seeded Meralco Bolts vie their Barangay Ginebra rivals in the first round of the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup. Like the New York Liberty guard, his arsenal mainly consists of facilitating, spacing the floor, and creating effective opportunities for his teammates—a key component in the defending champions’ success.
The second signature model of Nike’s premier WNBA star, Sabrina Ionescu, embraces Newsome’s crafty style of play. During their recent East Asia Super League (EASL) contest versus the visiting Ryukyu Golden Kings, he orchestrated a 12-point, 3-rebound, and 5-assist outing with the Meralco-inspired Sabrina 2s on-foot.

Nike’s Sabrina 2 has arguably become a staple for the vast hooping community, especially for those inclined to Kobe Bryant’s low-top distinction. The updated version features an “S”-inspired multidirectional herringbone pattern for quick movements and abrupt stops, along with updated Air Zoom cushioning and Cushlon foam, which accompany the up-and-down journey on the floor.
As his current go-to on-court weapon, he spoke on his fascination with his customized pairs, which have both “home” and “away” renditions, depending on the game’s location. The Nike Sabrina 2 has accompanied Newsome in his recent success and is said to be his “ideal” hooping sneaker with its on-court feel and colorways, but he appears to have a different all-time favorite.
“I’ll have them (Nike Sabrina 2 “By You”) on for this game. I got two custom pairs—a “home” (light) and an away (dark) pair. They’re one of my favorite shoes right now to play in,” he tells All-Star Magazine.
“My all-time favorite shoe as a hooper would be Kobe 5’s in any colorway or rendition,” he adds.
