In a strategic move to further his basketball career, Aldous Torculas has committed to joining the San Beda Red Lions following his departure from the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons. This decision was solidified following his meeting with San Beda team manager Jude Roque on Wednesday, March 5.
Torculas, a 6-foot-4 forward, has been a significant presence in the Philippine college basketball scene. His tenure with the Fighting Maroons spanned three seasons, during which he contributed to the team’s UAAP Season 87 championship. In that season, he averaged 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Prior to his collegiate success, Torculas showcased his potential at UP Integrated School, earning a spot on the UAAP Season 82 Boys’ Mythical Team.
His decision to transfer was influenced by the UAAP’s eligibility rules, which would have limited his remaining playing years had he stayed within the league. By moving to the NCAA, Torculas retains two years of eligibility, aligning with his aspirations for professional play.

Several NCAA institutions, including the College of Saint Benilde (CSB), University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD), Mapua University, and Jose Rizal University (JRU), expressed interest in recruiting Torculas. However, he identified San Beda as the optimal environment for his development, aiming to refine his skills in preparation for a professional career.
Torculas will observe a residency period during 2025 and is slated to commence his two remaining years of NCAA eligibility in Season 102, starting next year.

Reflecting on his time with UP, Torculas expressed gratitude, stating, “All I wanted was to play and enjoy the game that I love. Moving up to college and choosing to play and study for UP was one of the best decisions of my life.”
San Beda’s basketball program, known for its competitive edge and history of developing professional players, presents a promising platform for Torculas. His addition to the Red Lions is anticipated to bolster their lineup, bringing experience and versatility to the team.
As Torculas embarks on this new chapter, the collegiate basketball community will keenly observe his impact within the NCAA and his progression toward a professional career.
