Ateneo the frontrunner to attain Femi Edu
The Ateneo Blue Eagles are considered the frontrunners to garner the commitment of talented prospect Femi Edu, multiple sources told All-Star Magazine.
Femi is eligible for five seasons in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament beginning with his true freshman campaign in Season 87.
The 18-year-old stands at 6-foot-5 and can play as a wing. Athletic and long, Edu has the potential to become a household name in Philippine collegiate basketball with proper guidance The likely place for that as of the moment, barring a last-minute change, is in Loyola Heights.
Edu met with Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin in London last February and had workouts with the UP Fighting Maroons in April, but ultimately leaned towards joining the former, per sources. He is expected to arrive in Manila following his high school graduation.
Assuming Edu continues with his plans to join the Blue Eagles, he will be part of an impressive Ateneo rookie class that also includes Jared Bahay and Santi Sauler.
Like most Filipino-British basketball players, Femi trained with Bayanihan Elite in the United Kingdom. He played with Copleston in the Under-19 league, averaging 13.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks in 35 minutes a contest.
The Filipino-Nigerian previous played with the Ipswich Tomcats in the UK-NBL D2 league.
Femi is the younger brother of AJ Edu, a standout for the Philippine men’s national basketball team and import for Toyama in the Japanese B. League.
