Aurora Gaming Ends Championship Drought, Claims MPL PH Season 18 Crown
Aurora Gaming PH finally ended its championship drought, defeating Team Falcons PH, 4-2, to claim the MPL Philippines Season 18 crown at the PhilSports Arena.
The M7 World Champions entered the season as one of the league’s most doubted teams after suffering a three-match losing streak, but the Northern Lights defied expectations to finish their campaign on top and secure one of the Philippines’ two slots in the M8 World Championship in Istanbul, Türkiye.
From languishing among the bottom eight teams at the start of the regular season to claiminb the MPL Philippines crown, Aurora completed one of the most remarkable turnarounds of the season, silencing its doubters along the way.
Domeng was named Finals MVP for his instrumental performances in Aurora’s championship-clinching run.
Blinding Lights of Aurora
Aurora Gaming PH took control of Game 1 after securing all three Turtle objectives, establishing a gold lead of as much as 4,000 past the 12-minute mark.
The Northern Lights further widened their advantage when Light’s Atlas caught Flap’s Alice and SuperMarco’s Cici in the bottom lane, allowing Aurora to secure a favorable 3-for-1 teamfight trade.
The decisive moment came at the 13:53 mark when Light’s Atlas caught two members of Team Falcons in the mid-lane jungle, setting up Koyl’s Suyou to secure the Lord and put Aurora in a commanding position.
Yue’s Zhuxin then lit up the battlefield, leading Aurora to its first victory of the series with an impressive 6-1-7 KDA.
A Risk That Pays Off
Team Falcons responded in Game 2 with a Saber pick that proved instrumental in leveling the series at 1-1.
Hadji’s Zhuxin immediately made an impact, scoring a double kill during the four-minute clash in the mid lane and allowing the Falcons to take down Aurora’s mid-lane outer turret.
The mid laner continued to wreak havoc during the 4:40 Turtle clash, securing another double kill even as Koyl’s Nolan managed to steal the objective.
A bloodbath erupted in the bottom lane at the 7:12 mark after Nathzz’s Atlas initiated the teamfight by catching four members of the Falcons. Light’s Belerick followed up with Wrath of Dryad, but Kyle’s Saber opened the scoring with a double kill before Domeng’s Kimmy answered with a triple kill.
Despite Domeng’s valiant efforts to keep Aurora in contention, the Falcons eventually pulled away. Hadji’s Zhuxin spearheaded another offensive push at the 12:58 mark, leading the team through the mid-lane jungle and leaving only Koyl’s Nolan to defend Aurora’s base.
SuperMarco’s damage output proved crucial to the Falcons’ equalizing victory as he finished with a perfect 3-0-7 KDA.
Patience Turns the Tide
Team Falcons carried their momentum into Game 3, remaining deathless and establishing a 3-0 kill advantage past the seven-minute mark.
However, Koyl’s Suyou swung the momentum back in Aurora’s favor with a double kill during the 7:17 Turtle clash, helping the Northern Lights close the gold gap.
Despite Aurora gaining momentum and asserting greater control over the map, the Falcons remained patient and eventually mounted a comeback after securing the Lord at the 19-minute mark.
The Falcons then punished Nathzz’s Barats for getting caught out of position in the bottom-lane jungle. With Aurora forced into a 4-versus-5 situation, the Falcons capitalized on their numerical advantage to dismantle the Northern Lights and secure the victory.
SuperMarco’s Cici once again powered the Falcons’ offense, finishing with a 6-1-8 KDA and a perfect 100% kill participation.
Aurora’s Brilliance on Display
Aurora refused to back down in Game 4, pulling out an unconventional mid-lane Estes to counter Team Falcons’ Rafaela, piloted by Hadji. The gamble paid off as the Northern Lights established a commanding 6-0 kill lead without losing a single player past the seven-minute mark.
Aurora completely overwhelmed the Falcons during a nine-minute base siege, with Domeng’s Kimmy securing a double kill while Yue’s Estes provided sustained healing to keep his teammates alive.
Yue’s impeccable sustain proved instrumental to Aurora’s victory as he finished with a perfect 0-0-9 KDA, earning MVP honors and helping the Northern Lights restore parity at 2-2.
Aurora Finishes the Job
Aurora once again turned to Estes in Game 5, this time placing the healing specialist in Yue’s hands in the mid lane. However, an early overextension proved costly as Hadji’s Zhuxin unleashed a triple kill in the mid-lane jungle at the 5:35 mark.
Team Falcons continued to hold the advantage as SuperMarco’s Aulus rampaged through Aurora’s lineup, securing a Maniac during the 11:02 mid-lane jungle clash. However, Domeng’s Chou answered back, picking off the Aulus with a well-timed Way of the Dragon.
Aurora mounted its comeback after the Falcons failed to contest the 12-minute Lord, allowing Koyl’s Harith to unleash a game-winning triple kill and wipe out the opposing lineup.
Domeng showcased his mastery of Chou in the Gold Lane, finishing with a stellar 9-1-10 KDA.
Aurora finally put the nail in the Falcons’ coffin in Game 6, needing just 11 minutes and 41 seconds to seal the championship. Domeng’s Clint erupted for a double kill with help from Yue’s Lantern Flare, putting the Northern Lights within reach of the title and completing their triumphant run.
