‘Big Shot Bob’ Robert Horry not a believer in the 4-point shot
Add clutch NBA icon Robert Horry to the list of people who aren’t fans of the PBA’s new 4-point shot.
The 54-year-old, 7-time NBA champion is currently in Manila for a promotional visit with the NBA and during a media availability on Wednesday, September 18, at the NBA Store, he had the chance to share his sentiments about how a 4-point shot isn’t good for the growth of the game of basketball after being queried about the topic by a member of the media.
“So many kids want to shoot the long ball when they’re not understanding it’s about getting buckets. No matter if it’s a 2, 3, or 4 in this case; get buckets and do it with a high efficiency,” said Horry, who won NBA championships with the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Antonio Spurs during his productive 16-year career.
Horry, who played college basketball at Alabama, believes the 4-point shot would make players not play the actual game of basketball.
“When you add a 4-point play it makes kids not really want to play the game, they just want to shoot the ball. Play the game the right way, get buckets, have fun, play defense, and just enjoy the game – that’s what basketball is. It’s one of those sports that bring so many people together that it’s just fun to watch people play and watch people understand it.”
The PBA’s 4-point shot has been a diverse topic since it’s inception. A few notable head coaches – such as Barangay Ginebra’s Tim Cone – aren’t in favor of this new development, but there are also a few notable basketball personalities – such as NBA player Kyle Kuzma – who believe it to be interesting.
The 4-point shot has already played a role in determining some PBA games this conference.
